5 Tips for a Healthier Life in 2021

You’re reading this blog post because you want to live a healthier lifestyle. You know that living healthy is important, but it’s not always easy. That’s why we wanted to share with you 5 tips for living a healthier life in 2021!    We hope these tips will help you live your best life and encourage others to do so too! Read on for more information about what each tip entails.

The healthiest future starts now – read on below for some helpful advice in making the most of tomorrow!

1) Exercise Everyday

Exercise regularly, and you’ll boost your mental well-being by helping the body rid itself of stress. Regular exercise can also have many benefits including increased cardiovascular health as well disease protection!. Exercise is essential for protecting both our physical selves (cardiovascular). But even more so because it helps us fight off depression in these trying times with all these pandemics going around often lately. I’m not sure if that’s why they call them “mental exercises”! It doesn’t matter what type. Or how long – do150 minutes per week at least two days on which are spent doing strengthening activities like pushups/dips.

30-minute increments for a healthier Life for you:

Take at least two 30 minute walks per week and plan some walking meetings. Do an hour of strength training with kettlebells or hand weights while watching TV!. Jump rope in the morning when getting up, then again after dinner – it’s like your own personal trainer (and they’re not expensive). Squat over Hub Hub twice each day to help increase blood flow through area muscles. Just be careful that no one sees you doing this!!!

Exercising while sitting at a desk all day is not just for your physical health. But mental well-being as well. “Motion is medicine when it comes to the spine,” says the director of the interventional spine. At New York-Presbyterian Och Spine and vice-chair in Rehabilitation Medicine with Weill Cornell Medical College Dr. Charles Fischbeck. For example, you could add 10 squats into the mix; do tricep dips on an office chair or wall pushups throughout work – this way there will always be a movement!. You may also want to get up from behind that computer screen two or three times per hour in order to stretch out any kinks. After hours spent hunched over reading emails (or whatever task made this position seem like such a great idea

  1. Eat Right

Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are good for you; but if all of that sounds like too much work then focus on protein in the morning. This will help keep blood sugar levels stable throughout the day while also limiting your appetite-control hormones known as “hunger hormones”.

Some examples of food are egg-white omelets, Greek yogurt, and protein shakes. Dr. Kumar also warns against too much sugar from high fructose corn syrup. If you have a lot of sugar it can make you sick and give you lots of diseases like diabetes and heart problems. Whole plant foods can help you to lose weight, improve your heart health, reduce inflammation, and even boost brain function. According to Dr. Shilpa Ravella, a gastroenterologist at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and an assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians.

Mediterranean Diet

The Mediterranean diet, which is easy to follow, is one of the best ways to avoid red meat. According to Dr. Gary Gabelman, a cardiologist at New York-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital and an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, it’s one of the greatest things you can do for your heart. The diet is high in fruit, vegetables, legumes, fish, and nuts while also being high in antioxidants that have been linked to heart health and general health.

Alexandra Rosenstock, RD, CDN, a registered dietitian at the Center for Advanced Digestive Care at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, recommends eating before you feel hungry. If you wait too long to eat, you may end up eating things you didn’t intend to consume since you’re hungry or your blood sugar is low.

Rosenstock said that instead, grab something healthy that you have already prepared. Take time to plan ahead by stocking your refrigerator with healthy options.

  1. Maintain a Routine Sleep Schedule

Dr. Daniel Barone, a neurologist and sleep medicine specialist at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center’s Center for Sleep Medicine and an associate professor of neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine, says that while many people’s sleep patterns have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical to maintain a regular sleeping schedule and get about eight hours of sleep nightly. “Sleep deprivation weakens our immune systems significantly. So while we may not need as much sleep as we did before because of COVID infection, we still need enough to promote healthy functioning,” he adds.

He believes in establishing a regular bedtime and waking time, limiting your caffeine intake later in the day, turning off electronics before bedtime, setting limits on your media usage, getting plenty of exercises, avoiding naps, giving up alcohol consumption, and paying attention to possible sleep apnea symptoms.

  1. Avoid COVID-19 and the Flu by Taking These Precautions

The 3 W’s – wear a mask, wash your hands, and keep your distance – are now well-known guidelines to avoid the coronavirus. However, experts have urged people to protect themselves from the flu in order to minimize the risk of a “twindemic.”

Dr. Ting Ting Wong, an attending physician and infectious disease specialist at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, states that the best way to avoid the flu is to get a flu shot. Fortunately, COVID-19 prevention techniques also apply to the flu: avoiding large crowds and gatherings, using a mask, social isolation, frequent handwashing, and staying at home when you feel sick,” says Dr. Wong.

It’s critical for expecting moms to avoid the flu and get a flu shot. The flu vaccination, Dr. Laura Riley, obstetrician and gynecologist-in-chief at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, says, not only is it effective and safe for the fetus but it also protects babies born during influenza season, which runs from October through April. Flu vaccinations given to expectant moms reduce the chance of their infants being hospitalized from influenza by around 70%.

When the COVID-19 vaccination is more readily accessible, it’s critical that everyone gets it, and that pregnant and nursing women are offered it as well.

Stick to Your Plan

According to a New Year’s poll, 16% of individuals who made resolutions last year failed to keep any of them. Whether you’re trying to lose weight, get in better shape, stay in touch with family and friends, quit smoking or drinking, or achieve another objective, there are easy methods you can use to keep your plan going, says Dr. Gail Saltz, a psychoanalyst, and assistant attending physician at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine.
